I could barely find anything I didn't like about it.

Summary

Dark Cloud is an amazing game, crawling through dungeons which in themselves are fairly challenging when at the appropriate level for that dungeon, and all the while building your weapons, being careful not to break them and watching your thirst gauge, since the game understands you need water to live.

Of course we'll start with the story. Overall its fairly solid, and the plot progression is good. I wont say its an amazing story since its about an evil being taking over the world. Cliché?

Character design! A lot of the characters are really uniquely designed and I like that! Especially Toan and Osmond, and well, all of the moon tribe. I'll say at first hated the Dark Genie's (The "Dark Genie" thats introduced as a Genie-like being) design, but since finishing the game and finding out what the purple genie-like being actually was, the character design makes sense and I think the goofy looking design really fits it (As does its behaviour...).

So, besides the fairly high difficulty of monsters in level appropriate dungeons, you also have to watch your weapon's WHp (Weapon Hitpoints, the weapon will break and dissapear if this hits 0) and your thirst gauge. I like both of these mechanics as they're really what makes the game more difficult and dynamic. You can't do anything without constant water supply or repair powders, though later in the game neither are a huge issue they really limit you when starting out. I think thats great as it just makes the world of Dark Cloud expand even more as you progress.

Dark Cloud is a great RPG that combines old and new game features and makes them work together almost flawlessly.

Summary

Dark Cloud is a great RPG that combines old and new game features and makes them work together almost flawlessly.

The most interesting part of this game is the Altamillia system. Your adventure doesn't stop after you've cleared the dungeon. You have an entire town to rebuild before you're allowed to advance to the next part of the game. Along with rebuilding the town, you also need to build based on residents' requests. Although it may be sometimes tedious, the extra effort does not go unrewarded.

Dark Cloud seemed like more of a test game rather than a full new experience. Everything seemed thrown together and got really repetitive after a while. The only time you experience anything new is when you take on bosses or get close to finishing the game.

To sum the game up, its a hack-n-slash with some extra features. Nevertheless, it is a great game and is worth a play-through for any RPG fanatics.

I highly recommend playing through Dark Cloud if you plan on playing Dark Cloud 2. You're experience playing the sequel will be enhanced as you notice both the similarities and differences from each game.

Starts slow but if you give it a little time, gets great!

Summary

Okay so I got this game because I absolutely love RPG's. I didn't really start playing it until my friend came over and then we just turned it on and just started having alot of fun with it. In my opinion this is a great game, regardless of age or graphics. It starts slow, with cutscenes that provide no actual speech, only text boxes, and background music. But once you start playing, it gets great. You start with just a dagger, then you find a bunch of sweet enchanted swords and daggers and as you move from different dungeon levels, the difficulty goes from easy to average(due to the monsters you are fighting). Basically the game starts out SUPER easy. And I hate easy games, so thankfully it does get harder. Graphics are good for its release date. No criticism. Sound, is good(music included). Overall gameplay is great. If your an RPG fan, get this game! You will be drawn in fast! If not by the simple easy to learn hard to master gameplay, it will be the ability to create your own towns and place the buildings and components the way you want! Level 5 did a great job making their first game to be released!

One of the world's many great RPGs.

Summary

Playing through Dark Cloud is like seeing Neopolitan icecream for the first time. At first glance you're like "What?! Chocolate, vanilla, AND strawberry?! WHAT THE %&#@!?". But then you eat it and realize that all of these combine to become something beautiful.

Dark Cloud incorporates dungeon crawling, weapon upgrading, town building/customization simulator, solid story and memorable characters to become a very unique experience. As well as being a unique game in terms of gameplay, it also has great character designs, smooth art style, and one of my favorite videogame soundtracks. It's hard to play this game and take a break without the songs echoing through your head for days.

I suppose the one flaw this game contains is it's repetitiveness. It does become dull after extended hours of gameplay, as do most dungeon crawling RPGs. This can be cured with a day-long break. After that, you'll come back wondering why you quit playing in the first place. I'll admit, this review is very nestolgia driven, but if you're looking to get in on a piece of RPG history, this game is for you.

Dark cloud is one of the first rpg games I played for the ps2 and it's a decent one

Positives
-Fun Combat
-Graphics are half way decent
-Good length

Negatives
-Random generated dungeons
-Storyline is not that good

All in all I suggest this one but I'd get the 2nd one over this.
